Blood Testing Information for Cystoscopies
High-quality health care is our top priority at Siouxland Urology Center. In the interest of our patients’ safety and continued care, we are informing those patients who received cystoscopic procedures at our Dakota Dunes location between March 23, 2002 and January 26, 2009 and at our outreach locations between January 26, 2007 and January 26, 2009 of a concern that was recently brought to our attention during a routine survey of the Center by the South Dakota Department of Health.
The concern regards a slight risk that backflow of fluid through the cystoscopy tube system could potentially contaminate the extended tubing and bag of saline irrigation fluid. In the past, our physicians regularly monitored for potential backflow and discarded the tubing and fluid system promptly if such backflow was detected. In an abundance of caution, and at the request of the South Dakota Department of Health, we have revised our cystoscopy procedure and now discard the entire tubing and fluid system after each cystoscopic procedure.
Though the risk to our patients of exposure to any virus here is minimal, we are offering free blood tests to patients who received cystoscopic procedures at our Dakota Dunes location between March 23, 2002 and January 26, 2009 and at our outreach locations between January 26, 2007 and January 26, 2009 to put to rest any concerns regarding these issues.
